Decker House as part of Decker Court, 1655 North Fair Oaks Avenue Pasadena, California
This historic house was constructed in 1892 in the Queen Anne style at 750 N. Fair Oaks Avenue. It is one of the oldest Pasadena residential properties still standing representing the pre-1900 Victorian Era. According to Sue Mossman, of Pasadena Heritage, the city does not have much left from that time. Preserving historic buildings makes Pasadena such a unique and rich environment in large part because we have this history. It was designated a city landmark in 1998 and named for Frank and Anna Decker, its first occupants. Frank was the proprietor of the Brunswick Cigar Store and Billiard Room at 39 E. Colorado Bl. It was moved in 2019 to 1655 N. Fair Oaks Avenue. After extensive rehabilitation it anchors new compatible construction of low income home ownership condo units.
This Magnificent home once sat on the NE corner of Fair Oaks and Orange Grove. It’s important to note that Making Housing and Community Happen (MHCH), the organization sponsoring this mural, advocated for 9 months on this original site that the land under this home now houses 69 once unhoused seniors, thanks to effective advocacy of MHCH. Here are articles and eyewitness news videos of when the home was cut in half and taken up the street to its present location.
